    The Shanksville-Stonycreek

    Instrumental Program

Students at the beginner level (typically grades 4 and 5) have the following instruments available to them: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, percussion and violin. The elementary students have the ability to partake in weekly group lessons during the school day. Students in 4th and 5th will performs with the Symphonic Ensemble at the Spring Instrumental Program this May.

Once the students reach 6th grade, they are able to not only participate in weekly lessons but also begin rehearsing during school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All instrumental students in grades 6-12 are involved in the Symphonic Ensemble. This group performs at many functions throughout the year including parades and various school programs. All instrumental students have the chance to join Wind Ensemble which is the varsity version of the performing groups.  The music played by this ensemble is more difficult than that of Symphonic Ensemble or the Elementary Instrumental Ensemble.

Students in grades 7-12 have the chance to experience other instrumental mediums through our cooperative with Berlin Brothersvalley School District. Through our co-op, students have the opportunity to perform at football games with the marching band at Berlin during the fall sports season. Band members can also perform with other student musicians by participating in PMEA Sixth Grade Bandfest, County Band (grades 7-12) and auditioning for PMEA District, Regional, and State Bands (grades 10-12).
